Designing a Logo for The Owlbear Den

This past month, I had the amazing opportunity to design a logo for a local upcoming business and it turned out to be one of my favorite projects yet.

The business is called The Owlbear Den, a local business coming to Morgantown, KY focused on creating interesting and interactive game spaces for tabletop game enthusiasts with a retail component selling new and previously owned gaming materials and collectibles.

For the branding, the customer had a clear idea in mind: he wanted the logo to echo the look of the local school district’s logo. The goal was to create something that felt recognizable and familiar to locals in his target age group, all the while still standing on its own as something distinct and memorable.

Striking that balance between "familiar" and "different" was the challenge of this project. I wanted the logo to give an immediate sense of local connection and nostalgia, without just completely copying the school district’s branding. It needed to feel like it belonged to this community, while clearly representing something new.

Alongside the logo, I also designed a Facebook banner for The Owlbear Den, which ended up giving the business an all around cohesive look across their social media.

In the end, I really enjoyed working on this project, and I'm excited for the direction The Owlbear Den is headed. I'm hoping to work with them again in the future as their community continues to grow.
